Melamine is an ingredient frequently used in a variety of consumer products including furniture, diningware, food utensils, and flooring. The results of a recent scoping review completed by The Endocrine Disruption Exchange suggest that melamine exposure may contribute to health effects beyond renal dysfunction, including neurological, reproductive, and anthropometric impacts. This presentation discussed the results of the study and demonstrated how scoping reviews can assist systematic reviewers in identifying feasible and relevant research questions.
Featured Speaker
Ashley L. Bolden, MS is a Senior Scientist with The Endocrine Disruption Exchange. She utilizes systematic review procedures to evaluate scientific evidence that relates exposures to a wide variety of endocrine disrupting chemicals with health outcomes throughout all stages of the lifespan. Currently she and her colleagues are evaluating the evidence streams of several chemicals and health effects. Projects include assessment of the reproductive, developmental, and endocrine research on triclocarban exposure, early life environmental chemical exposure and autism, and air pollutants associated with unconventional oil and gas production with potential endocrine activity.
Prior to working at The Endocrine Disruption Exchange Ms. Bolden studied immune response in the brain following closed head traumatic injury. In graduate school at the University of Colorado Boulder, she explored the impacts of waste-treated water on the reproductive behaviors and physiology in both wild and experimental fish models.
