Children’s Health

Children are especially vulnerable to harm from exposures to contaminants. Compared to adults, they breathe more air, ingest more food, and have a greater surface area relative to their body mass and volume. A child’s growth and development makes them more susceptible to toxic chemicals (for example, lead in drinking water harming brain development) and their unique behaviors can bring them into more direct and prolonged contact with toxic chemicals in their environment.

A cornerstone of our mission at CHE is to protect the health of families, children, and communities by amplifying and discussing emerging science on environmental factors that contribute to disease and disability. We work toward a more sustainable and healthy world where children can flourish and grow to their full potential.
