Environmental Justice

Environmental injustice and environmental racism are prevalent in the US and worldwide. For example, both the production and disposal of plastics are unjustly concentrated near low-income communities and communities of color. The issue of environmental justice can also be considered from a broad, international perspective; many of the global impacts of climate change are felt most acutely in regions with historically lower carbon emissions.

Community-based research and advocacy are key to remedying environmental injustice. Systemically marginalized communities are the most impacted by environmental harms. Scientists, advocates, and policy-makers from these communities often have the clearest understanding of the problems and solutions around environmental health. CHE provides a space for leaders from these historically underrepresented communities to share their stories and research as we navigate to a more just and sustainable world.
