Voices Project

At CHE, we believe in hearing from and learning with leaders of all ages in the environmental health and justice field. Amplifying perspectives of experts from different disciplines and at various points in their career builds a rich tapestry of understanding that can make all our work more effective.

That’s why we launched our digital Voices Project. On this page we share original recordings of environmental health scientists and movement leaders, along with podcasts from partner organizations that amplify the voices of environmental health and justice experts.

CHE Café Conversations

In 2022 we reinstated our CHE Café conversations with environmental health leaders on key emerging issues.

In addition to our video recordings, many of these conversations are available in podcast format from our partners at The New School:

Protecting scientists from industry intimidation

Multisolving for climate, chemicals & health

Science, Storytelling & A New War on Cancer

What’s Next in Environmental Health?

Toward Tomorrow Interviews

Through a new collaborative effort with the Lowell Center for Sustainable Production at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, we are making recently recovered archival interviews with 18 visionary environmental health movement leaders widely available.

The Toward Tomorrow Initiative, led by Joel Tickner and Polly Hoppin 20 years ago, brought together leaders and scholars from diverse fields to develop a common agenda for environmental health.

The Toward Tomorrow initiative is predicated on the belief that scientists, government officials, and community, health, environment and business leaders can find common cause in recognizing human consumption and production as sources of both problems and solutions.

These longform oral history interviews were preserved and are now being transformed into podcast format. Some of the visionaries interviewed include Eula Bingham, Theo Colborn, Lois Gibbs, Tom Goldtooth, and Damu Smith. Recordings will be added to the collection throughout 2025 as they are finalized.

This audio mosaic from 2004 brings together the voices of several interviewees speaking to their vision for environmental health and justice.

Please note, the website mentioned in the recording no longer exists.
